Taking The Load Off

This image is in the style of an early 1960s magazine advertisement. In large arched font running across the top are the words-Taking the Load off-a man sitting in an armchair resting with a large smile on his face as he reclines. The colours in the image are pastel Olive-greens, reds and yellows. Various positive statements surrounding the image encouraging the man to relax and let go. The overall feel is incredibly positive and reminds the viewer to take some time for themselves. This image was created by Google Gemini Pro.

Wow, the latter half of October became busy. I had planned to do more here but there was no time. It was Halloween artwork and everything else related to the festivities. Maybe I should start on Christmas now… Don't tempt me 🎄🎅!

This article is all about keeping one's spirits up. I know many people begin to go downhill during this time of year and some in fact see the coming of the official festive season only through eyes of the dread. There is one simple rule I follow to counter all of this fear.

Allow yourself to think young again. Put down all the rules and limitations. Thank simply and not too far ahead. Try to approach things from a fresh unexpected perception. Just as a child would do, the youngest ones have no memory to run on so everything is brand spanking new. Just allow yourself to see it the way they do. That's a good start.

A fictitious small town in the early 20th century
on a sunny warm day as people relax.

Try to limit interruptions and distractions. It's fine to go off-line for a while. Put all the technology down and get into something you want to do. Set things up so there are no interruptions. If you think about it that's what people used to do. My father would definitely have times where you could not interrupt him in whatever he was doing. You were asked to leave him alone and give them some space. This usually occurred Sunday mornings until noon. He would happily get into a book or a mathematical equation and sit for those several hours deeply involved in whatever the problem was at the kitchen table.

You would be amazed how beneficial just knowing you have a block of space to do whatever you want to do secure in the knowledge that you will not be interrupted will benefit you. The world can indeed get along without you for several hours straight.

Here's something I know you've heard before. Get decent uninterrupted hours of sleep, and again once this is arranged just knowing that you're going to get a good night's sleep is trimmed endlessly beneficial. It really does help take the load off.

When was the last time you had a dating or an afternoon with nothing planned? I don't know about you but the modern world has a tendency to try to fill every open day on the calendar. We must get away from this as a society. We all need some mental down time. It's a stereotype, but I'm reminded of the iconic "Small Town" where you could actually get out of touch for a while with the rest of the world. It sounds awfully inviting, I must admit. There is a lesson to be learned from that small town idea. Life will be over soon enough and regardless of your belief system, why rush through it? The most pleasurable and insightful things can occur when you're not actively doing something. When you allow yourself the space to breathe. Even as I'm dictating this article I find myself relaxing and slowing down just a bit. So just contemplating the idea is good.

I asked that pretty much sums things up. Have a great day and of course feel free to leave comments.
